The game takes place prior to all other entries in the franchise, as it follows Kratos in his quest to escape the Prison of the Damned and defeat the Furies… the creatures that torture him daily for having broken his blood oath to the original god of war, Ares.
This is a game that couldn’t live up to its predecessors despite its technical achievements and detailed 3D graphics.
On the other side of the spectrum we have God of War: Ascension. So due to this limitation it gets the bottom spot in our ranking. That said, it’s still a mobile game in a franchise of full-fledged grand adventures with some serious graphics. In its time it was definitely a worthy addition to the pantheon of God of War games, and the story provides insight as to why the other Greek gods shun Kratos as they do. This God of War title also looks amazing with a vibrant color palette and beautiful sprites that make the story come to life. In a way, that actually makes Betrayal an amazing game.ĭespite the obvious limitations of the systems it ran on, the game maintained the combo system and in general the intense action of the main games. This thing ran on phones before they were considered “smart”! Don’t mistake this for a full-fledged modern mobile game. God of War: Betrayal was released for mobile systems back in 2007. Knowing where to start the list isn’t too hard. To look back and celebrate the long trajectory of this series, I’ve decided to rank all games in the franchise starting from the worst(which is still pretty good) and working down to the #1 best GoW game.Ī tough challenge considering the quality these developers have maintained throughout the years! But let’s get into it. This has inspired many to follow the formula and create their own masterpieces, such as Asura’s Wrath and Dante’s Inferno. It has an amazing treatment of the source material leaving just enough intact for players to see the resemblance, without letting it get in the way of telling an engaging and compelling story. Kratos’ struggles against the gods and their creations have shaped the industry and our expectations from the genre. And given the ending of the last installment, God of War still has a lot to deliver.
None of the remaining eight titles have been named as of yet.ĭon't forget, click 'Track It!' to make sure you catch our imminent God of War: Betrayal hands-on report.Santa Monica’s infamous series of mythological action-adventure games has provided epic odysseys and intense battles for more than ten years. Then there are two automotive titles Jump That Car, a simple sounding game where players drive, bounce and rally a buggy around hilly landscapes, and Snoop Dogg Cruisin', which sees players trying to convince the amusingly-named rap star of their driving skills. Other games announced include a 2007 edition of the mobile Jeopardy! game, featuring new controls and five different modes. Its US counterpart also talked about Spider-Man Puzzle, a casual match-'em-up title.
Indeed, Sony Pictures Europe has already released one title on the list here: Spider-Man 3, a 2D side-scrolling movie tie-in. There is no mention of European releases, but we'd expect a few of them will make it to handsets this side of the pond via Sony Pictures Europe or perhaps another publisher – especially since the titles include a mobile version of God of War: Betrayal, which you can very shortly hear more about in our exclusive preview. Sony Pictures Television has announced that it will release 14 new mobile games in North America this year.
